The Quilt Association

The Quilt Association was formed in 1996 in order to raise funding to set up a permanent quilt centre in Wales. It now owns The Minerva Arts Centre in Llanidloes. As a registered charity, The Quilt Association continues to add to its collection of antique quilts, and to work on the conservation and preservation of the collection, which now numbers over 120 items. There are fine quilted examples in Welsh wool and in printed cottons. Many of these are from the Mid Wales area, and provide an intriguing insight into life of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries when they were made. Flannel production was once an important industry in Llanidloes, and some of the patchwork pieces in the collection are made of locally produced fabrics. The Quilt Association organises a regular annual summer exhibition of antique and contemporary quilts, and other exhibitions and workshops throughout the year.
