Elenydd Wilderness Hostels Trust

Location

The Elenydd Wilderness Hostels trust (EWH) is a registered charity ( registered charity number 115946) and was established in 2006 when the YHA announced it was to close and sell its hostels in the Cambrian Mountains.

With the hard work and dedication of many volunteers the Trust now runs two of these hostels Dolgoch and Ty’n Cornel independently and is committed to maintaining, improving and extending the use of the hostels in an environmentally sympathetic way.

In 2007 it raised the funds to buy Dolgoch and then secured a major grant for refurbishment work here. Many improvements have been made at Ty’n Cornel and this hostel was purchased by the Trust in 2013. As part of its commitment to running the hostels in a sustainable/ eco way, the Trust has installed solar powered lighting and water heating at Dolgoch. Ty’n Cornel has mains electricity supplemented by solar panels which provide hot water, showers and some heating; the installation of solar panels in this hostel reduces its environmental footprint by replacing about 50% of the mains electricity used. There is no land line telephone.
