CWVYS (Council for Wales of Voluntary Youth Services)

CWVYS represents, supports and gives a collective voice to its membership of national and local organisations in their work with over 250,000 young people in Wales, which involves 30,000 volunteers and 3,000 paid staff.

It is an independent charitable body that promotes the interests of its membership. CWVYS was set up in 1974, preceded by the Standing Conference of Voluntary Organisations in Wales, which came into existence in 1947.

Membership of CWVYS comes from national and local voluntary youth organisations in Wales. The members collectively work with over 250,000 young people aged 11 - 25. The Council is composed of two representatives of each member organisation under the direction of an honorary Chair. The Executive Committee consists of ten representatives of national organisations and ten local community organisations. Membership is open to all voluntary organisations that agree with the Council’s aim and share its remit for youth work.

CWVYS works in partnership with agencies promoting good youth work practice.
