Llanfyllin Workhouse, known locally as Y Dolydd, is one of the finest examples of a Victorian workhouse to survive in Britain. It is a developing community centre and venue for the arts, education, environment and heritage.
It houses the Workhouse History Centre, open daily to the public free of charge, with a small museum, film and self-guided visitor trail. It offers an art gallery, workshop and studio space and is home to around 20 local enterprises, many in the creative sector. There is bunkhouse accommodation for up to 20.
With a beautiful rural setting, four attractive courtyards, a catering kitchen and cafe-bar and other indoor spaces this historic buiding provides a distinctive venue for weddings and private functions. We host a wide variety of music and cultural events.
Llanfyllin Workhouse has a strong commitment to green hub principles and offers courses and activities in ecology and rural crafts.
The Workhouse is owned, managed and supported by the Llanfyllin Dolydd Building Preservation Trust (registered charity no.1091097). The Trust is controlled by its members and the Workhouse is run almost entirely by volunteers: there are opportunities to help with maintenance, gardening, fund-raising, organising events, receiving visitors and historical research.
