Stay Social’s purpose is to provide a safe and welcoming space for adults with LD to take part in social and educational activities, have fun, express their unique identities and develop their skills to reach their full potential in the community.
Stay Social is attended by a range of people with a variety of needs;

Learning Disabilities
Autism
Neurodiversity
PMLD
those who simply are ‘lost’ and need a safe, nurturing space
We have members with ages ranging from early 20’s to late 60’s.

Stay social is a member-led project which ensures that the individuals who attend take an active role in defining and running their own provision. We hold regular reviews and formulate the timetables based on their ideas.

Since the first session, we have had in the region of 2000 participants through our doors and served 1500 hot meals to those in need. We estimate that 6000 cups of tea have been brewed and more meaningful conversations had than we can count.

The sessions run every Thursday afternoon at the Johnston Institute Hall. We have anywhere between 25-50 members attending each week. The session takes the format of a drop-in group where members are able to either attend with or without their support. We make timetables and session posters in an easy-read format so members know ahead of time what is happening, what activities will be on offer and which guests are attending. We also advertise what the lunch options will be so that any members that have social anxieties or overwhelm can pre-plan and prepare.
