Welsh local authorities are now required to provide advocacy services under the Social Services and Well-being act 2014 – People First Bridgend (PFB) provide such a service for Bridgend County Borough Council as part of it’s commissioned hub and spoke model: Bridgend Voice and Choice Advocacy Hub.
PFB provide Independent Professional Advocacy for people with learning disabilities and autism where they are in receipt of, or in the process of a referral to BCBC Social Services – the objective of the IPA service is to support beneficiaries to overcome barriers in understanding and communicating their views and wishes in relation to Social Services.
Examples of advocacy issues our IPA can support beneficiaries with include: safeguarding, assessment, care and support planning, accommodation issues and accessing information, advice and assistance.
We currently have one advocate who has 20 years experience and holds a C&G Level 3 in Independent Advocacy; PFB were also awarded the Advocacy QPM in April 2019.
PFB covers the Bridgend County Borough and clients out of county who still receive support from BCBC Social Services.
The preferred referral route to our IPA service is through the Bridgend Voice and Choice Advocacy Hub, details of which can be found here: http://bridgendvoiceandchoice.cymru – BVC signpost referrers and potential clients to the appropriate advocacy services that form the advocacy hub.
