Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council was established in 1974, and comprises 16 elected Members. Newtown Town Council is the largest of its kind in Powys.
The council has a number of areas it works on:
* Direct services and events offered to the town.
* A local voice on behalf of the town to other organisations, groups and individuals.
* A consultee between different organisations, groups and individuals.
* A recipient of information on behalf of the town from other organisations, groups and individuals..
