Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council was established in 1974. It is one of over 730 community and town councils throughout Wales. It is a separate organisation from Powys County Council. It is made up of 16 elected town councillors and 2 community youth representatives – who work voluntarily.
The Town Council has a number of areas it works on, below are the broad areas the work will fit into:
Direct services and events offered to the town
A local voice on behalf of the town to other organisations, groups and individuals.
A consultee between different organisations, groups and individuals.
A recipient of information on behalf of the town from other organisations, groups and individuals.
Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council offices are open 9am -5pm Monday – Thursday & 9am until 4.30pm on a Friday via side entrance in Severn Street if outside of Museum hours (11am until 3pm)
