The Institute is home to the majority of societies and cultural events in the community, as well as hosting the public library and town council. Over 200 events a year are currently held.
The Centenary Project, a £155,000 refurbishment of the building and its facilities, has successfully bid for £121,000 from the Big Lottery.
Work will commence in October 2008 and be completed within the year.
The Project will include external repairs, a lift, new toilets, sound and lighting systems for the Main Hall, a Media Centre (audio, video and DTP), new kitchens and two offices for local businesses to rent.
Businesses and individuals can help sponsor the project.
