Oswestry School Recital Series

Our 26th season produced its customary rich harvest of musical luminaries, performing for our customary large and enthusiastic audiences. The Academy of Ancient Music opened the year in great style, led by their soloist leader Pavlo Beznosiuk. Then the brilliant young Notos Piano Quartet from Berlin. Next, from New York, the stunning Escher String Quartet, and to follow them a fabulous evening’s vocal wizardry from the King’s Singers. The amazingly talented young pianist Galin Ganchev thrilled a packed audience in May (who will ever forget his encore?) and finally, a return visit from Manchester Camerata. Altogether a highly satisfying and enjoyable year, I hope you will agree.

Although the coming Season is shorter than usual, we are quite sure that the four concerts will provide equal delight. In February, a return visit from the London Conchord Ensemble (who played here many moons ago). These six musicians are of the highest calibre (two are principals in the BBC Symphony Orchestra), and they will be performing a beautifully varied programme. Next, in March, the Martinü Piano Trio from Prague, playing three of the most popular works from the piano trio repertoire. Then, in May, we are delighted to have secured the vocal ensemble Voces8, who are now regarded as one of the world’s most versatile and best-loved singing groups. Finally, in July, an orchestral concert to wind up the Season – with a welcome return from the European Union Chamber Orchestra. Their delightful programme will include another piano concerto – Mozart’s happy C major K415.
